Homestay is a safe, affordable, all-inclusive accommodation option, and living with a local family adds a valuable layer to your experience and education in Canada.
CHN’s expectations for both hosts and students are clearly laid out in our Student Participation Agreement (SPA), which you must read, sign, and discuss with your hosts as part of our application and onboarding process. The SPA is a blueprint for making the most of your homestay experience in Canada.

Agreement
For Participants of all ages, homestay is an important privilege and opportunity that provides enjoyment and other benefits, to Participants and homestay Hosts alike. This Participant Agreement (PA) is designed to clarify what is reasonably expected of Participants, confirm the commitment of the Participant (and if the Participant is less than 19 years of age, the Participants parents and/or Guardian) to comply with this PA and to specify the consequences, in the unlikely event that the Participant fails to comply with this PA.
By clicking the 'I Agree' button below, the Student/Volunteer/Worker, referred to as the Participant in this document, hereby agrees to this document. Even if you click Agree without reading the PA, you are still agreeing, on your own behalf and/or on behalf of the Participant, to be bound by the terms of the PA.

The Participant hereby agrees:
- To obey the laws of Canada;
- Not use drugs or medication unless prescribed by a registered physician and labeled in English; and
- As long as the student is a minor, not purchase or consume tobacco or alcoholic beverages or drive a motor vehicle; and

Behave as a considerate and respectful member of the homestay Host family by:
- accepting any homestay Host, regardless of their race; national or ethnic origin; colour; religion; gender; age; mental disability; physical disability; and/or sexual orientation, in accordance with the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms;
- make an effort to talk with and be part of the homestay Host household and participate in their activities;
- helping around the household: accept responsibility for reasonable jobs, including keeping your room clean, helping with the dishes and doing your personal laundry;
- observing the homestay Host household rules (if any), especially concerning the operation of any household appliances, such as the stove (to limit the risk of fire) and curfews - If you are going out, tell your homestay host where you are going and when you will be home. If you are likely to be late home, telephone and inform your homestay Host.
- keeping themselves clean, by regular personal hygiene;
- paying for damage to their Hosts property, caused by the Participant (if any); and
- paying for the Participants personal expenses, such as international telephone calls.

For those students enrolled in an academic program of study, the Participant will:
- attend school daily, or as otherwise instructed by the school;
- complete all homework and assignments;
- maintain at least a 'C' grade (65%) in their courses; and
- Provide CHI with timely access to any information concerning the Participants performance, behaviour and other experience at the school including without limitation, course/subject selection, academic reports, correspondence, memoranda, assessments, test results and extra-curricular activities, as well as timely notice of and the right toattend any meetings, case conferences or interviews regarding the Participant. The Participant confirms that he/she considers the sharing of such information with and otherwise giving access to CHI is essential to the proper exercise of this agreement and as such hereby declares that this shall constitute his/her consent under applicable privacy legislation in Canada to do so.

The Participant declares that:
- the information given in this Homestay Application is complete and correct to the best of the Participants knowledge;incorrect or incomplete information represents a breach of this Agreement and is subject to the terms of paragraph 15 herein;
- the Participant has read and fully accepts all CHI Invoice Terms and Conditions, including cancellation and refund policies;
- the Participant has read and agrees to comply with the CHI Homestay Guide for International Students;
- the Participant agrees to pay for any and all expenses incurred by the Participant or on the Participants behalf at the homestay host assigned to the Participant by CHI (including but not limited to any losses or damages caused by the Participant, the Participants long distance telephone and/or internet usage expenses and any medical expenses);
- the Participant hereby waives, releases and absolves and agrees to indemnify and save harmless CHI and its officers, Directors, employees, agents and independent service providers (including but not limited to the homestay hosts and transportation service providers selected for the Participant) from any and all liability for all the Participants losses and damages (including, but not limited to the loss or theft of the Participants money and the damage, loss or theft of the Participants personal belongings), personal injuries, or death, however caused; and
- the Participant agrees to obtain any and all medical and travel insurance (including for sickness, personal injury, liability and personal belongings).

In the event of a breach of this PA by the Participant, CHI and CHN reserve the right, in their absolute discretion, to:
- notify the Participant of the breach (by fax or email or telephone) and provide the Participant with twenty-four (24) hours to remedy the breach, such remedy to be subject to the agreement of CHI; and/or
- relocate the Participant to another final Homestay Host, at the expense of the Participant and without refund of the unused and prepaid Homestay Host fees paid to the first Homestay Host; and/or
- notify Citizenship and Immigration Canada of the breach (with the result that the Participants Passport may be confiscated and the Participants Study Permit or Visa may be cancelled); and/or
- expel the Participant from the CHI Homestay Program and the Participants Homestay Host, on one (1) hours written notice, to unsupervised accommodation in a hotel, at the Participants risk and expense; and/or;
- instruct the Participant to return home via the first available flight, at the Participants risk and expense.For Participants who are minors, the Parents or Legal Guardians agree to arrange for the Participant to return home and take full responsibility for the care and supervision of the Participant upon being expelled from the CHI program.
- The consequences of a breach of this PA by the Participant (including but not limited to the consequences described in paragraphs 5 (i) to 5 (v) herein) are without recourse to CHI and CHN, its officers and directors, employees, agents and independent service providers (including but not limited to any homestay Host and transportation service provider). The Participant further agrees to reimburse CHI on demand, its fees and expense related to any such breach.
- The Participant also understands and agrees that this PA forms part of their CHI Homestay Application and their Declaration therein.
- I fully understand this Agreement and agree to the terms and conditions set out in this Agreement.
